Ian M. Watson collection, 1750-1986.

Catawba Indian genealogy collection consisting of research notes, correspondence, photographs, and audio cassettes compiled or generated by Watson and culminating in the publication of Catawba Indian Genealogy (Geneseo : Geneseo Foundation : Dept. of Anthropology, State University of New York at Geneseo, 1995). Contains copies of such primary sources re population and government relations as Tribal Rolls (1943, 1956, and 1960), South Carolina documents relating to Indian affairs (1750-1754), and census records (1870, 1880, 1890, and 1910). Collection also contains published works by James Hart Merrell; correspondents include Thomas J. Blumer, Judy Martin, James H. Merrell, Roger Trimnal, and Wes White; surnames represented: Ayers, Blue, Canty, Harris, Marsh, Mursh, Mush, Patterson, White, and Whitesides.
